Bird China for Felix

So this is Felix's china. Is it perfect or what? These Homer Laughlin budgies are absolutely adorable.

I love how the blue sings right out of the quiet cream and gold setting.

And here's a teapot with a china bird on the lid: charming.

And there are several pieces, all beautifully shaped, with these wonderfully fat bluebirds on them. Lucky, lucky Felix.

Oh, lucky Felix indeed! And how fitting for Felix! Although I have Homer Laughlin both in the Georgian style and the Eggshell Nautilus (Countess) I have never seen this bluebird pattern. I covet it...

What a nice grandmother to supply such beautiful china to her grandchildren. I thought Clara's Priscilla was pretty, too. Can't wait to see the patterns the other three receive.

It's fun to see this bird pattern for the first time--I'm a longtime HL fan! My husband's grandmother gave me a few Jaderose dishes 20+ years ago, and the love affair began! (Burgundy, Empire Green, Pink Rose, Windsor Rose...) My daughter is also the proud owner of a HL Cavalier Turquoise Melody set courtesy of her grandma. Here's a link for your readers to enjoy some of these fabulous patterns: http://www.robbinsnest.com/homer-laughlin-china/

The budgies are adorable. I had some real ones just like them when I was a child. Their names were Bluey and Belle.

It's also good that you call them budgies. That's what we Aussies call them, and they are native to our outback. Most Americans seem to call them parakeets.

Hi -
Felix has gorgeous china! It's so perfect for him. And he is one very fortunate young man to have such a treasured gift. I love each piece. I've never seen either of these patterns.

How wonderful! How kind and thoughtful of her. When my Grandma passed away I was given her china and even though it is a cheap kind I love using it and thinking of her

What a beautiful pattern - I immediately looked on eBay (!) but couldn't find any. Maybe your mum cleaned them out! :)

I just love the idea of collecting for children's future "grown-up" lives. I've been doing something similar for my daughters, 10 and 5. Every year, I buy them a single gold charm, themed around their main interests of the year (currently, I am searching for a swimmer and a bookworm). When Georgia and May turn 16, they can pick out a gold charm bracelet of their choice, and then I can give them the individual charms I have been (secretly) amassing. I'd love to find something similar to do for my sons - the china idea is a great one - though I'm not sure they'd appreciate it right now!

Love your blog, the way - I always look forward to your posts.

Kate in NY--Before we had girls, we had decided that if we had a boy, each year, whoever won the Superbowl, we would collect a piece of memorabilla(sp) from that team!

Since we had girls, each year we get them a Holiday Barbie.

Can your son recommend a place for me to find out what kind of bird we've sited? A website perhaps? We found a black heron-looking bird in north Florida that swims under water to catch fish. It comes up to flip them in the air and eat them, but it can stay under water for a while. I looked on birds.cornell.edu, but couldn't find the one I'm looking for.
